WHAT RESOLUTION SHOULD MY FILE BE?

Your resolution must be 300 dpi. When you start setting up your file make sure the setting is at 300 dpi. If you start your image at 72 dpi and change it to 300 dpi the resolution will still be a low resolution document. This affects the over all quality of your image. (See below for example)

WHAT IS BLEED AND HOW MUCH BLEED SHOULD MY FILE HAVE?

The term bleed in printing is an extra area around your printed piece for cutting purposes.   .125 (inches) or 1/8 of an inch, should be added around for “bleeding” purposes.   Let's say you are printing a flyer with the dimensions of 4 x 6 inches.   The actual file size you will submit with bleed is 4.25 x 6.25 inches your flyer will then cut down to 4 x 6 inches.   Please do not placed type close to the final cut size.
